Job description

Our client, a world leading designer and manufacturer of high-quality CNC tool and cutter grinders is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Melbourne office for a 6 month full time contract.

About the Role:

Our client is a world leader in serving the global market with innovative products and solutions such as designing and manufacturing high quality CNC tool and cutter grinders.

This role will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of quality products using sound engineering judgement, to meet the communicated company/department goals.

This is to be completed in conjunction with techniques and systems to implement and support engineering functions that achieve innovative ideas and direction, quality workflows and globally applied technical direction whilst creating a collaborative, cohesive and supportive environment for Design Engineering personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate and updated Bill of Materials
  • Create CAD data and drawings to release-level quality standards
  • Ensure compliance to standard quality design procedures, such as (but not limited to) FEA/CFD, FMEA, and DFM/DFA
  • Perform validation and verification of mechanial systems
  • Prepare and execute Test Plans (CVP&R and DVP&R) documenting results and feeding back into the development process
  • Participate in Risk Assessments as part of CE Compliance activities
  • Prepare the detailed time estimation and financial analyses in support of projects
  • Prepare engineering Requirements documents and design documentation
  • Create amazing products and services that, at a minimum, satisfy the customer's jobs to be done and create a compelling value proposition
  • Liaise with Branches, Customers and Operations during the preliminary design stage to accurately determine the customer and business requirements from a technical perspective
  • Prepare the detailed time and effort estimation in support of projects
  • Execute high quality work to best practice that meets project milestones and deliverables
  • Use the relevant business processes to guide a value-driven approach to product delivery
  • Provide technical support for Manufacturing and Service Engineers, or other relevant business stakeholders
  • Apply the requirements of the European CE Directives/Regulation (or appropriate Safety/Regulatory standards) throughout the Product Development process.
  • Create necessary data and artefacts for products and services that add value across the entire business 
  • Follow appropriate business system workflows to ensure data integrity, provide continuous improvement and ensure resources are used in an optimised fashion

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated technical competency in Mechanical Engineering, including but not limited to;
    • Engineering physics
    • Material technology
    • Machine kinematics
    • Structural dynamics
    • Fluid & Thermal dynamics
    • Mechanism design
    • Pnuematics & Hydraulics
    • Sensing, Encoder or Positional technology
    • Functional Safety
  • Demonstrated comprehension of technical/engineering and design principles, and relevant technologies and their application to machine tool design
  • Demonstrated skills in NX or other CAD/CAM systems
  • Demonstrated experience in GD&T and drafting to ASME Y14.5-2009 standards
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills for root cause analysis and problem solving
  • Demonstrate a practical application of data collection and analysis for scientific decision making
  • Preferred experience in working with robots at integration and programming level.
  • Proven ability to liaise and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders/suppliers
  • Solid verbal and written communication that enables collaboration and execution
