The opportunity
As a Production Development Engineer, you will leverage your technical expertise while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team. You will help streamline the production process, actively troubleshoot complex issues, and guide the team in achieving operational excellence.
The role, based at the Waurn Ponds campus of Deakin University, will report to the Senior Production Engineer and will be responsible for:
- Assisting with the development, assembly, commissioning, and operation of new pilot scale equipment.
- Maintaining, servicing, and repairing production equipment. Designing and prototyping ancillary production equipment.
- Liaising with external consulting engineers and contractors on outsourced work.
- Recommending and implementing enhancements to equipment for improved operation and output quality.
- Collaborating with the OH&S Officer to document and implement Safe Working Procedures.
- Monitoring and optimising key production equipment for performance and quality.
- Working cross-functionally with a diverse team of research scientists, engineers, and production specialists, to ensure seamless technology transfer and scale-up.
- Performing cell assembly, testing, and analysis as needed, in addition to other tasks as required to deliver program objectives.
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in battery production or a similar manufacturing environment, with a proven track record of success.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering (mechanical, mechatronic, electrical, or related field).
- Have or be able to obtain RP.Eng. status under the National Engineering Register.
- A strong foundation in the fundamental theories and concepts underpinning electromechanical and control systems, enabling effective problem-solving
- Proficiency in analysing production data to identify trends, optimise processes, and improve quality.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and troubleshoot complex equipment in a pilot or development environment.
- Hands-on technical aptitude with a demonstrated ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve equipment issues effectively to maintain optimal performance.
- Skills in CAD and able to produce 3D-models and 2D technical drawings to communicate processes and design intent.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and mitigate safety risks in a rapidly changing environment, actively contributing to the development and implementation of safe work practices as new processes and technologies are introduced.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented approach to challenges, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
