About the role
Reporting to the General Manager: Technical Services, the Product Solutions Manager is a product focused technical specialist role with the primary objective to develop and deliver solutions for fiber-based packaging products.
Technology focus areas include problem solving, product enhancement and cost reduction of packaging paper and board, through the investigation, development and application of packaging design and materials including coatings, chemical additives and alternative fibers.
Duties
- Liaise with the Visy sales and technical staff about product opportunities / requirements
- Gain understanding of clients’ needs and application or research the problem and potential solutions
- Lead the development and enhancement of our product offerings to meet market demands
- Collaborate with Visy production and technical people to plan out product development project
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful project delivery
- Lab development of material (paper / coatings / board) that will address the problem
- Test and prove the material at lab scale
- Lead machine trials to prove material at limited production scale
- Lead or support client trials
- Support commercialization of product
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align product strategies with overall business goals.
What you will bring to the team
- Degree in either Engineering or Science with a major in chemistry or materials- essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in product development – essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management – advantageous
- Experience in the design of R&D projects to assess new materials and processes
- Experience in lab methodology and testing
- Detailed knowledge of the chemistry/physics and manufacture of an industrial material such as paper, polymers, coatings.
- Experience in experimental design, statistical analysis and process modelling - advantageous.
- Hands on experience with trial execution
- Understanding of paper mill- and corrugated packaging production methods and hardware is desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- A strategic and analytical mindset who possesses great problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office
- Excellent organisational- and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence cross-cultural teams
