Key Responsibilities
The Professional Officers team is responsible for the advancement and development of nursing and midwifery through active representation of the QNMU at committees, working parties, educational forums or other relevant groups and through negotiation of issues with government departments and with employers at senior levels using the principles of transformational leadership and positive practice environments.
More specifically the position is responsible for advising on and facilitating development of holistic nursing and midwifery activities such as budget and funding mechanisms, workforce planning, workload management, skill mix and career & classification structures. This work is often done in collaboration with other QNMU Officials, in particular Organisers and Industrial Officers.
The position is a high-level strategic position which actively contributes to the strategic development process regarding the professional status of nurses and midwives in Queensland.
As the Team Leader you will report to the Director, Organising and Professional Services and be responsible for coordinating the team’s day to day operations by prioritising team workflow, providing leadership, direction, guidance, support and coaching to team members. The Team Leader is responsible for both the day-to-day management of the team and undertaking a leadership role in the professional work performed by the team.
About You
You are a well organised, excellent communicator who can lead and inspire a team to achieve both team and organisational objectives. To succeed in this role, you will possess the following:
- Appear on the Ahpra Register of Practitioners as Registered Nurse (Division One);
- Experience in a senior management/advisory role with demonstrated experience leading a team of Professional employees;
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate at senior levels of government departments or with major employer groups;
- Demonstrated knowledge of health industry funding mechanisms and contemporary workforce management issues;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the NMBA professional practice framework and regulation relevant to nursing and midwifery;
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary theory and practice relevant to the profession/s;
- Demonstrated ability to develop and publicly articulate a strategic approach to issues affecting nursing and midwifery practice;
- Demonstrated ability to research, critically analyse, evaluate and produce written reports on contemporary nursing and midwifery issues especially those involving the work environment such as workforce management, workloads and skill mix as well as reach sound conclusions and provide viable options;
- An ability to travel away from home for up to five nights at a time and a current driver’s licence is required;
- Dual registration as a registered nurse and registered midwife (desirable); and
- Advanced qualifications in nursing and/or midwifery (desirable).
