Project Manager | Defence Acquisition Programs | Complex Naval Platforms

The organisation is currently seeking the skills of a SeniorProject Manager to guide project delivery within a major Australian Naval program.
 
Reporting directly to the senior engineering executive in the country, the Project Manager will play a pivotal role in leading project strategy and coordinating project outcomes from inception to completion. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful delivery within scope, schedule, and budget. This role requires a deep understanding of Australian miltiary (ideally maritime) systems and acquisition processes, coupled with patented project and people leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the entire acquisition project lifecycle, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, and quality standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables.
• Develop and maintain project plans, risk management strategies, and mitigation plans.
• Lead and motivate project teams, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and specifications within the defence industry.
• Provide regular project status updates to senior management and key stakeholders.
• Identify and address potential challenges, implementing effective solutions to keep projects on track.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
• Proven, successful experience as a Project Manager within Australian defence industry, with demonstrated background in Defence Acquisition Programs.
• In-depth knowledge of military systems, technologies, and Defence stakeholder engagement
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
• Exceptional organisational and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable.

Given the sensitive nature of the information and customer environment, the Project Manager will be required to hold an active Australian security clearance (ideally NV1+).
