Job description

The Mackay Institute of Research and Innovation (MIRI) Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital are looking for a Project Officer (Innovation and Redesign) to join their team on a permanent basis.
Mackay Hospital and Health Service provides a public healthcare service to a population of more than 182,000 across the Mackay Region, Whitsundays and Hinterland. The district covers an area of approximately 90,000km2.

  • To support the Innovation and Redesign Director, Senior Project Officer and Project Facilitators in health system improvements through fundamental rethinking and Redesign of core processes using well proven project and implementation science methodologies.
  • To support Innovation and Redesign activities/workshops and ongoing projects
  • To support the promotion, understanding and capability development in project and implementation science methodologies, whilst engaging key clinical and non-clinical stakeholders in order to generate complex systems change within the MHHS.
About the Team
Mackay Institute of Research and Innovation (MIRI) is an emerging health service-led translational research and innovation centre; a collaboration between MHHS and James Cook University (JCU)/ Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine (AITHM).
The core functions of the Institute are:
  • leading cutting edge translational research and innovation.
  • implementing evidence-based practice into patient care.
  • implementing innovations that improve productivity and safety.
  • supporting clinicians to undertake in research in areas of strategic interest.
  • leading the Tropical North in Occupational Health and Safety Research.
  • supporting the development of the Tropical Australian Academic Health Centre.
has six hospitals, two multi-purpose health services and four community health centres that employ more than 3,700 staff. The district covers an area of approximately 90,000km2 and provides services to patients and their families in Bowen, Cannonvale, Clermont, Collinsville, Dysart, Glenden, Mackay, Middlemount, Moranbah, Proserpine and Sarina.
