We are looking for a Project Support Officer to join the exciting work of the Digital Strategy team. We are a small team with big impact. Whether it is supporting significant IT change to be managed well into the business or developing our strategy for digitally-enabled business transformation, you will be able to make a real difference.

Your role will focus on digital strategy and include:

  • Developing and maintaining plans for implementing the Defra Digital Strategy into the Environment Agency.
  • Supporting work to develop the EA’s Digital Strategy
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and communication
  • Records management and development and maintenance of the team’s SpoL sites.
  • Supporting the regular all-staff call on IT
  • Provide flexible ad-hoc support for other team priorities
The role requires someone who is a confident self-starter, who is adaptable and can flex their work to meet changes in direction or priorities.

The ability to develop a network of relationships with a wide range of internal colleagues and those in Defra, Digital, Data and Technology (DDTS) and other Defra Group organisations is vital.

There is a possibility that this position will become a permanent position in the future.

Responding to incidents is an important part of what we do, and with this in mind you’ll have an incident role and should be ready to make yourself available to respond or provide business continuity support. This may attract an additional payment, and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.

The team 1

The Digital Strategy team sits with the Technology Governance Team in Strategy, Transformation and Assurance. We work across the business, with DDTS and the wider Defra Group on two broad areas:

1 - digital strategy – including implementing the Defra Group digital strategy and developing the EA’s strategic approach to digitally-enabled business transformation, and

2 – working with DDTS to enable and supporting corporate level IT change into the business (e.g. Cedar, Windows 11).

Experience/skills Required 1

We are looking for a Grade 4 or highly capable Grade 3 looking for additional challenge who should have:

  • good organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver to tight timescales
  • programme and Project support experience, including developing delivery plans and tracking progress
  • good communication and influencing skills and experience in engagement and communication plans and materials to meet the needs of a range of stakeholders
  • experience of delivering great customer service
  • experience of gathering, maintaining and quality-assuring data/ information, including records management.
Highly desirable skills/experience:
  • An enthusiasm, understanding and experience of the delivery of digital services / transformation
  • Understanding the business of the Environment Agency
  • Able to use technology to make your work more efficient
  • Experience of continuous improvement methodologies
Contact and additional information 1

We are a national team and you will be able to work from any of our locations. We expect team members to be generally available during the core hours of 10-3 but will enter into discussions if a more flexible work pattern is required. There will be the need for occasional travel for meetings, away days etc including occasional overnight stays. Currently this averages around once a month but may change subject to team needs, for example to support the development of early career team members. Any significant changes will be discussed with team members.
