Sutton Farms is looking for a Protected Cropping Grower to join our team in the Lockyer Valley. Currently with over 1 Hectare of Protected Cropping and with further expansion in mind, this presents for an exciting career opportunity with the use of cutting-edge technology.
Current production plans are for snacking tomatoes.
The successful applicant will need to work collaboratively with our Management Team to efficiently coordinate our growing schedule and maximise crop yield to meet our customers’ demands and quality requirements. Areas of responsibility will be for the entire growing process from planting to harvest. This is an active and “hands on” role, including the development, but also implementation of the different tasks in the growing system in the Protected Cropping division of Sutton Farms. Ideally this person will have 5 years experience in a similar role with the crops outlined.
Core Responsibilities will include:
- Develop and manage the implementation of growing strategy to suit each crop and greenhouse
- Inspect crops to determine strategies relating to irrigation, growing environment, crop care and IPM
- Manage crop quality and deal with issues promptly and proactively
- Management and implementation of weekly nutrients requirements through water analysis and plant observations
- Undertake and ensure all scouting and spraying is completed weekly
Expected skills include:
- Proven crop growing experience
- Safe application of chemicals and fertilisers (with Chem Cert)
- Irrigation and fertigation scheduling
- Crop health monitoring and pest and disease management
- General tractor work and other farm operations experience
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Team management and staff training skills
- Acute attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Accurate and timely record keeping
- Able to use computers and hand held devices (eg iPad)
- Carry out tasks in a safe manner and promote a safe work culture
Other favourable skills and qualifications include:
- Forklift licence
- Quality assurance experience, including Freshcare and HARPS or GLOBAL GAP
