About the role
This position is employed by Townsville HHS, Townsville Public Health Unit but located in Mount Isa. The Public Health Nurse provides Public Health nursing services for the Communicable Disease Control section of the Townsville Public Health Unit (TPHU). This includes surveillance, investigation and management of notifiable conditions or conditions of Public Health importance, including children with elevated blood lead levels within the North-West Hospital and Health Service, under the guidance of the Public Health Medical Officer, Communicable Disease Control, Townsville Public Health Unit, Townsville.
The Public Health Nurse role will work with the Public Health Nurse in Mount Isa and the Sexual health Public health Nurses in Townsville to provide sexual Public Health support to clinicians and clinical services in the Townsville and North West Hospital and Health Service (HHS) geographical areas. The position will work with the Sexual Health team to contribute to the goals of the North Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sexually Transmissible Infections Action Plan.
Skills and experience
- Ability to provide expert nursing leadership and coordination within an Public Health environment.
- Sound knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and theory and the ability to apply relevant legislation, guidelines and standards.
- Ability to integrate the strategic direction and priorities for quality improvement into the clinical service, establishing a quality framework.
- Advanced leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution and change management skills.
- Understanding of teaching and learning in the health care environment (adult learning principles) with demonstrated clinical teaching and facilitation skills.
Role requirements
- Bachelor of nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
- Authorisation as an Immunisation Program Nurse to practice under the provisions of the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 2021.
