Job description

Qualified Chef – Full Time

We are currently seeking an experienced and self-motivated Qualified Chef to join our busy kitchen team at the Berri Hotel. Our hotel is idyllically located on the banks of the Murray River in Berri South Australia and is perfectly situated in the heart of the Riverland. Our bistro is open 7 days a week and offers a selection of local pub favourites combined with function spaces that host several corporate and private functions on a weekly basis. The hotel is also part of the 1834 Hotels network

Our Chefs provide a consistent and high-quality standard of food to our guests. To be successful in this role you will need to have; a creative flair, be adventurous and versatile in your approach to cooking and have the ability to draw upon flavours of modern Australian cuisine. The key responsibilities will include:

  • Hands on approach to food service within the kitchen whilst maintaining high levels of service on a daily basis;
  • Strong focus on quality and stock control;
  • Continuation of set procedures to create consistent practices within the kitchen;
  • Maintaining strong team morale and cooperate with the effective training of apprentices, trainees and dish washing personnel;
  • The ability to adapt to different kitchen requirements and work alongside a diverse team of professionals; and
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and well prepared service area.

 The ideal candidate will have:

  • Current Australia trade qualification; 
  • A can-do, responsible, and flexible approach to work;
  • A strong work ethic and a passion for preparing high quality food; 
  • The ability to maintain high workloads, and meet deadlines within specific time frames;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • A friendly customer service demeanour;
  • Prior experience desired in staging outstanding food services in a restaurant or hotel setting;
  • An ability to thrive under pressure and work as a team in a high paced environment;
  • A great sense of style and immaculate presentation and grooming;
  • Attainment of the necessary Food Handler’s certificate; and
  • Initiative, commitment and passion for your job;
  • The ability to work under pressure and work on your feet for long periods;
  • A strong appreciation and compliance of workplace safety.

This is a full time role, working a spread of shifts over a 7 day roster; including week days, weekends, nights and public holidays.
