Zerella Fresh is one of Australia’s largest grower and packers of Carrots, Onions and Potatoes supplying Australia’s leading supermarket chains plus independents and exports.
We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Quality Assurance Officer to join our team on a full-time permanent basis at our Parilla site located in the Mallee region of South Australia.
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Quality Assurance Officer will be responsible for general Quality Assurance, to provide confidence that all packed produce meets the customer’s specification in terms of product size, quality, temperature, packaging, and labelling.
Duties include:
- Support operations to identify the root cause of product damage, short shelf life and other sources of quality downgrading whilst guarding against over grading.
- Complete pre-operation and post-operation inspections, ensuring identified concerns are reported.
- Take samples of loads prior to tipping to provide preliminary load assessments for farms.
- Take samples of product throughout the washing and packing process to identify quality issues and sources of damage.
- Take residue samples throughout the process and perform incubation to identify bacteria counts.
- Sample packed produce as per requirements to ensure customer specifications are achieved.
- Ensure weight and metal calibration is reviewed and validated on all machines according to required standards.
- Obtain and store samples to monitor shelf life.
- Responsibility to understand the site’s commitment to the ongoing compliance of the Freshcare Food Safety and Quality Standard, and HARPS.
- Maintain quality related equipment and work areas.
- Ensure farm records and product assessments results are accurately captured, maintained, and recorded in Information Leader System.
- Review compliance in terms of quality temperature and biosecurity with Quality Assurance System.
- Maintaining Quality Food Safety Policies and systems.
- Manage and maintain site documents to meet requirements as per QMS system.
- Ensure results of sampling and analysis are reported concisely, timely and effectively to all stakeholders using IT systems and through direct communication as required.
- Ensure potential contamination of product is communicated to supervisor/line manager in a timely manner.
Requirements:
- Prior experience working in quality control.
- Experience in food packing or processing
- Ability to perform manual and repetitive tasks, experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- A high level of attention to detail is required, with an outstanding work ethic.
