The Queensland Cord Blood Bank At The Mater (QCBB) is seeking a permanent part-time (0.8 FTE) Recruitment and Collection Officer to join the team based at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital, South Brisbane.
About the role
The Queensland Cord Blood Bank At The Mater (QCBB) was established in 1998 and is a member of the AusCord public cord blood banking network operating within Australia. The program is funded by the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments of Australia. This role is designed to work collaboratively with the Obstetric Unit and to recruit and consent mothers who are delivering at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital who wish to donate their baby’s cord blood as potential life-saving therapy for patients worldwide with life-threatening diseases such as leukaemia. The Recruitment and Collection Officers collect the umbilical cord blood following the delivery of a baby. Collection of maternal blood samples and a detailed medical/family history are also key elements of the role.
The position is employed on Mater Misericordiae Limited’s Operational Award at Level 4 ($34.95 – $38.32 per hour + entitlements)
What you’ll be doing
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Communication with obstetric teams and mothers delivering at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital, South Brisbane.
- Education, recruitment and consenting of mothers who wish to be cord blood donors
- Collection of cord blood
- Interviewing mothers to obtain a maternal/family medical history
- Collection of maternal blood
- Completion of documentation
- Computing - donor registration & data entry
- Meeting of contractual targets
- Duties associated with compliance to Good Manufacturing Practice and/or as requested by the Director.
Competency based training and assessment will be provided to the successful appointee.
About you
To be considered for this position you will have
- Phlebotomy skills and experience
- Medical/family history interviewing skills and experience
- Midwifery or nursing experience or background
- High level interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently
- Ability to accurately complete documentation and enter data
- Computer literacy
- Ability to follow established guidelines, policies and procedures
