Job description

Join our dynamic team at John Hunter Maternity Services and become a pivotal part of delivering safe, women-centred care. With opportunities for rotation across all areas of maternity services and a supportive environment led by clinical experts, you'll thrive in a role that values collaboration and work-life balance.

Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis

Registered Midwife

John Hunter Hospital

About the role:

Provide safe, compassionate woman-centred care within the maternity and gynaecology service ensuring care is delivered in partnership with women and their families. Take a leadership role in coordinating midwifery care, working in partnership with Registered Nurses, Student Midwives, Assistants in Midwifery, and the multidisciplinary team in a collaborative model which places the woman at the centre of her maternity care.

Midwives employed in John Hunter Maternity Services will have opportunities to rotate to all areas of maternity services including high-risk antenatal, antenatal clinic, birth suite, and postnatal.

Shifts are a 7-day roster including a range of shifts. Some areas of Maternity Services are offering 12-hour shifts for staff for work-life balance. This would be for discussion with the individual managers of the unit.

  • We have a great supportive team of clinical leads 24/7 supporting midwives in all areas of Maternity Services.
  • We offer face-to-face education for all staff to ensure they are compliant with face-to-face training.
  • We have clinical midwifery educators who specialise in all areas of maternity and support all staff coming into the service.
  • All staff are provided with orientation days in all areas.

Where you'll be working:

John Hunter Hospital Maternity Services is one of the largest level 6 tertiary hospitals in NSW offering services to women requiring a higher level of care across the district. John Hunter Hospital is located in the Newcastle area, just 20 minutes away from local beaches and cafes.

Our maternity service works collaboratively with a highly collegial multidisciplinary team consisting of medical staff, nursing, midwifery, physiotherapists, social workers, and more to ensure that the highest quality of care is offered to women and their families.

As a service, we expect that all staff treat each other with respect and appreciate that we all bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and experience to the team.

As the largest employer in the region, we encourage our staff to use their knowledge, skills, and experience to innovate and challenge existing methods of operating for the benefit of our patients. Meeting the principles of excellence, every patient, every time.

The NSW Government has committed $835 million to redevelop the John Hunter and John Hunter Children's Hospital. The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct project will deliver an innovative and integrated precinct with industry-leading facilities.  The project will work in collaboration with health, education, and research partners to meet the current and future needs of the greater Newcastle, Hunter New England, and Northern NSW regions.

Benefits:

  • Gain diverse experience by rotating through various areas of maternity services.
  • Enjoy a balanced work-life routine with a 7-day roster offering a variety of shifts, including the option for 12-hour shifts in selected areas.
  • A supportive environment with 24/7 access to clinical leads ensures continuous support for midwives in all aspects of maternity services.
  • Sustainable Healthcare: Together towards zero.
  • ADO's each month (for full-time employees).
  • 4 weeks annual leave (pro-rata for part-time employees).
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for staff and family members.
  • Opportunity to work and collaborate with a range of non-clinical and clinical professionals.

Requirements:

  • Current registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA.

This position is for you if:
