Period of Appointment
Appointment to the role is on a fixed term flexible (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) basis for 12 months.
Duties
- Carry out the duties of an Inspector of Mines in accordance with the Mineral Resources Development Act 1995. Conduct routine inspections, surveys and investigations and assist senior staff as required.
- Evaluate, monitor and report on mineral exploration, mining, quarrying, rehabilitation and heritage protection programs and contribute to recommendations on a site specific basis to enhance the protection of environmental, historical and archaeological values.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, briefs, checklists, and itineraries for inspections of mineral exploration, mining, quarrying and rehabilitation activities.
- Maintain liaison with mineral explorers, mines and quarries and produce regular reports on the State's mineral exploration, mining and quarrying industries.
- Provide advice to departmental officers, operators and stakeholders regarding environmental impacts and rehabilitation measures in field situations.
- Assist with preparation of submissions and reports on town planning matters and land use management as required.
- Undertake duties as required for the Geological Survey and Industry Services Branches.
Evidence of the following must be provided prior to appointment to this role:
- Satisfactory completion of an appropriate course of study at a recognised tertiary institution.
Desirable Requirements
- A current driver's licence.
- Senior First aid qualification.
- Interest in outdoor recreational activities
- Graduate qualification in Geology, Environmental Sciences or Engineering.
