About the Role
An opportunity exists for a Clinical Research Nurse to join a dynamic research team within The Department of Anaesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in a broad range of clinical research with a team of professionals recognised as leaders in both clinical and research activities. You will be working alongside a team that includes clinical Research Nurses and research scientists.
Research, ethics and governance
- Be conversant with the requirements for the conduct of clinical research of the Institutional Ethics Committee according to the therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) guidelines for good clinical Research Practice (GRP)
- Oversee the governance and ethics processes (including applications, amendments and enquiries) related to the Department's research projects.
- Help to manage the department's compliance processes with the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework.
Clinical trials
- Perform and/or coordinate procedures and investigations required for protocol treatment of patients involved in clinical trials, including patient education preparatory to obtaining informed consent
- Administer investigational and standard therapies to clinical trial patients according to study protocol
- Be responsible for the management and collection of samples from patients who have been treated with investigational and standard therapies
- Provide in-service lectures and presentations as required
Classifications for this position will include:
- Research Nurse Level 2 YU13 ($102,278 per annum pro rata)
- Scientist Grade 1 RX1 - RX7 ($62,426 - $89,986 per annum pro rata)
Your Contribution
- Degree in Nursing, Science or Health Science.
- Experience in patient facing roles is highly desirable either in clinical roles or clinical research
- Current practicing certificate
- Past experience with the conduct of clinical trials or other research experience is desirable but not essential
- Flexibility with working hours to manage research tasks is highly desirable
- Current National Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

About the Department of Anaesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine
This position is located on the Fitzroy campus in the Inpatient services building, Department of Anaesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine. You will principally be involved in research activities across the Department, Operating Theatres, Post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU), wards, intensive care unit (ICU) and outpatient clinics, although other environments may be involved. You will work in conjunction with other research staff including Research Nurses, science staff and investigators on number clinical research studies, multi-centred and local research projects within the Department.
