We are currently looking for a Safety Assurance Team Leader to join our team.
Job Summary:
You will be an experienced Safety Assurance Engineer, and in addition to your Engineering Assurance responsibilities, you will be required to lead a team of safety engineers to ensure the safety and security of client operations, products, and services. The Team Leader will increase engagement of the team, enabling commercial and individual performance while ensuring the wellbeing needs of the team are met. Through leveraging the strengths of each Team Member, the Team Leader will develop and help team members play in position and build their network with the wider organisation.
The Team Leader will continue to also provide Safety Assurance activities to Ricardo and its clients consistent with their area of expertise.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide Safety Assurance activities to clients and their subcontractor
- Provide clarity to team members regarding their role and objectives.
- Discover your team members' strengths and help play them in position.
- Ensure individual and collective recognition and praise is provided.
- Get to know your team members and demonstrate genuine concern by regularly checking in on their wellbeing and treating them as individuals.
- Support your team members in the development and regular review of annual SMART goals (commercial and personal development), including participation in annual performance appraisals.
- Lead by example in the areas of disciplined performance, planning, preparation, feedback, following QA, MILE planning, checklists, demonstrating integrity, etc.
- Address performance issues early, leveraging HR and senior leadership support.
- Coordinate learning and development needs with HR.
- Be a conduit of corporate messages and providing feedback from team members to more senior managers.
- Support recruitment activities where required, including attendance at interviews and candidate selection.
- Carry out Safety Assurance Activities as a senior Safety Assurance engineer
- Demonstrate a high level of experience and the ability to work within the Safety Assurance team to share experiences and work with team members to resolve problems or issues.
- Coach and support team members in areas where this will help to develop the individual and deliver high quality services for the client.
Leadership and Engagement:
- Team Leaders role model appropriate behaviours - leading by example in terms of disciplined performance, planning, preparation, feedback, following QA, MILE planning, checklists, demonstrating integrity, etc .
- Team Leaders should consider location when engaging with team members -homeworkers, remote workers, part-time employees etc, bearing in mind individuals' circumstances.
- Communications - being a conduit of corporate messages and providing feedback from team members to more senior managers.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor degree in Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field.
- At least 10 years' professional experience in Safety Assurance, risk management, or as a consultant to an organisation, operating in a complex high reliability environment, including two years relevant experience in the rail environment.
- Demonstrated experience undertaking quantitative and qualitative analyses including as Fault Tree Analysis, Goal Structuring Notation (GSN), Event Tree Analysis and ALARP/SFAIRP demonstration.
- Familiarity with the Systems Engineering life cycle and appropriate models including the Vee lifecycle.
- Demonstrated high level of experience in the application of safety-related standards such as AS/NZS 4801 Safety Management Systems, ISO/IEC 61508 Functional Safety of EEPE Safety Related Systems, and EN 50126/ 8/9 Specification and demonstration of RAMS to the design of systems and tools within an operational or project environment
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
- In-depth knowledge of Safety Assurance principles, methods, and tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders at various levels.
- Project management experience and relevant certifications (e.g., PMP)
- Accessible, approachable and flexible with good communication skills.
- Good and developing emotional intelligence.
- Aware of confidentiality.
- Good judgement of when to refer people to talk to their HRBP/Director/MHFA/EAP.
- Team Leaders build rapport and develop trust with their team members.
- Team Leaders encourage and listen to others' opinions and make them count.
