About the role
The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) is seeking a motivated individual for a temporary Sample Management Officer role at the Racing Science Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone eager to start their career in a laboratory environment. Your key responsibilities include:
- Sample Kit Management: Prepare, dispatch, and receive secure sample kits and bags.
- Logistics Coordination: Ensure sample bags are dispatched efficiently and accurately, adhering to SMT procedures and policies.
- Liaison: Work with QRIC's Stewarding units to ensure timely delivery and return of sample kits.
- Security and Integrity: Manage adherence to work instructions, policies, and standard operating procedures in the Sample Management Area.
- Sample Preparation: Receive, document, aliquot, and prepare various samples (e.g., blood, urine, hair) for submission to the RSC laboratory.
- Quality Control: Report non-compliances, update the security bag and kit usage database, and supervise small work groups when required.
- Compliance: Follow Standard Operating Procedures and NATA/ISO 17025 accreditation requirements, including performing quality control procedures and maintaining the integrity of samples.
- Team Participation: Contribute to a positive team environment and the success of business outcomes.
- Safety and Ethics: Model QRIC's safety culture, report incidents and hazards, and demonstrate ethical behavior and integrity as required by the Public Sector Ethics Act 1994.
About You
To thrive in this role, you need:
- Ability and willingness to learn essential logistics and workflows necessary for supporting a modern analytical laboratory.
- Some technical laboratory skills in sample handling would be an advantage but not required.
- Experience in a laboratory environment.
- Understanding of NATA/ISO 17025 accreditation requirements.
- Previous experience in a Sample Management role.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Must have full working rights in Australia.
- Be able to pass and hold national police check.
