The position will perform a diverse range of complex and highly specialised diagnostic and therapeutic testing in the disciplines of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine. The position reports to the HP5 Haematology/Transfusion HP5 Rockhampton Supervisor. The role is accountable for the routine effective and timely delivery of Haematology and Transfusion services at the Rockhampton Laboratory and will assist in the implementation of a range of Haematology and Transfusion initiatives across the Rockhampton Group of Laboratories. This position has no direct reports.

Perform routine and complex testing of samples and related duties, following well established accredited protocols and standards within all areas of the core laboratory. (Haematology, Blood transfusion & Specimen reception).
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated ability to participate in a multi-skilled laboratory team independently and under thesupervision of more senior practitioners.
- Demonstrated knowledge, expertise and skills within the Haematology/Transfusion disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to apply established principles to routine and complex scientific duties in the Haematology and Transfusion Medicine disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use computerised systems, basic keyboarding skills particularly for data entry.
- Perform duties with a high degree of independence.
- Possession of a B App Sc (Medical Laboratory Science) or an equivalent qualification.

- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
- The successful applicant may be be required to participate in 24-hour shift, on-call and weekend roster arrangements.
- All newly appointed staff are contracted to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements across the organisation to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements
- At times this position may also be required to provide relief to the 24-Hour Continuous Shift Team as well as the Innisfail, Atherton and Thursday Island Laboratories, as operationally required.
