About Us
The Security Business unit, as part of the greater Property, Development and Commercial Services Office (PDCSO), plays a pivotal part in protecting the University's physical assets and ensure the safety and wellbeing of its people, and supports the teaching, research, and commercial activities of Murdoch University.
The Role
The Security Shift Supervisor has the responsibility of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the University community and protection its property and assets between midnight to 8am Monday to Friday. The role provides security control room coordination, including incident response and escalation, supervision of the on-duty security officers, implementation of security operating procedures and emergency management guidelines, and performs the role of chief warden.
Key responsibilities include:
- Efficient coordination of security system monitoring including CCTV and electronic access control, and the timely and effective response to alarm activation, calls for assistance, breach of behaviour, incidents and suspicious activity,
- Manage the recording of events and log activities that occur on the shift; including drafting incident reports for management review and investigation,
- Conduct detailed handovers at the beginning and end of each shift,
- Coordinate incident and emergency responses in line with the University Critical Incident Management Plan and Security Operating Procedures,
- Advise current policy and procedure to rostered officers, including the planning and allocating of shift resources,
- Under direction of Security Management, respond appropriately to complex, sensitive and detailed enquiries using judgment and initiative.
What you'll bring to this role
- Completion of Certificate II or III Security with a current and valid Security License or equivalent competency,
- Substantial relevant security experience in a large and complex organisation, with experience in coordinating emergency response services,
- Ability to effectively supervise and instruct staff and contractor employees,
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example and work productively as part of a team,
- Proficient in the usage of Microsoft Office suite of products and security systems,
- High level of written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with people at all levels and backgrounds, and effective usage of interpersonal skills in sensitive and stressful situations whilst providing excellent customer service,
- "C" Class Driver's License
- The suitable applicant will be required to complete a fitness assessment and maintain an appropriate level of fitness for the physical standards and efficient performance required of this position.
