The role of the Aboriginal Health Outreach Worker (Integrated Team Care Program) is to:
- Establish links with Aboriginal communities and individuals within SESLHD to encourage and support the increased use of health services and 'mainstream' primary care services within SESLHD.
- Identify barriers and solutions for local Aboriginal individuals and communities that may be experiencing restricted access to health services.
- Encourage and support Aboriginal community members to access health and related services, through approaches focused at both individual and community levels.
- Support health professionals and health services to develop culturally appropriate and safe policies and practices.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

- Holds or aspires to hold a minimum III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Workers works and relevant experience in the delivery of Aboriginal Health Programs.
- Demonstrated highly developed skills in oral and written communication and computer literacy.
- Demonstrated ability to inform and support the development of Aboriginal health programs/services and their implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to establish linkages with Aboriginal organisations, mainstream health services, NGO's and government services.
- Comprehensive understanding of issues related to Aboriginal health, particularly around chronic disease.
- Demonstrated experience in case management or care coordination working with Aboriginal families with complex needs.
