About You
- You will require a Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (overseas qualifications must supply the AASW Overseas Assessment number) with demonstrated understanding of the current AASW Practice Standards as they relate to the position.
- Skills and experience in crisis intervention and trauma counselling with demonstrated understanding of recovery frameworks, principles, and practice of Sexual Assault.
- Advanced knowledge of the impact of trauma on children, young people, and adults, and demonstrated assessment, counselling, therapy, and casework experience.
Where You’ll Be Working
The Senior Social Worker in the Sexual Assault Service (SAS) supports and provides integrated psychosocial (counselling), medical and forensic responses to adults and children who have experienced Sexual Assault. Interventions and support for families where children are displaying problematic or harmful sexual behaviours and consultation, and education for professionals and community partners.
The Senior Social Worker provides counselling to victims of Sexual Assault (children and adults) and their non-offending family members within a trauma informed context. This involves crisis and medium-term counselling, court support and casework to assist recovery.
They will work closely with interdisciplinary colleagues and senior managers within Violence, Abuse and Neglect services to ensure the development and delivery of effective and pro-active services. They will support the ongoing development of the service, demonstrate clinical specialty, and support the development of junior staff and social work students.
Working closely with their colleagues and leadership within VAN Services and more broadly across the health service to facilitate recovery, integrated and trauma informed care that is holistic and seamless. Targeted training and development are provided to support the team to be innovative, culturally safe and evidence based to develop and deliver effective and sound interventions that operationalise the NSW Health Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Framework, Service Standards, Guidelines and relevant Policy and Procedures.
