Current opportunity
We are currently seeking a near qualified or newly qualified CA (Big 4 accounting firm favoured) to join our retail focussed industry team which sits within the BDO Business Services team and works closely with tax, advisory and audit.
The team was set up three years ago and has grown significantly bringing in over $4.5 million of fees p.a. to the firm in FY 24.
Our NSW based clients’ turnovers range from 50 million, an average of 300 million and largest 1.5 billion. These clients require multiple services from our service lines and BDO. We manage the delivery and implementation of all such services from our team. As a result a wide gambit of accounting, tax and advisory skills have been built over time by our more senior staff.
We seek a candidate with strong accounting, tax, and financial statement skills for compliance works purposes as a base starting point. We will teach you the rest. The ability to communicate and train people, complete and review workpapers is important. There is an opportunity in time to work on material advisory works if the candidate wishes.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare workpapers for year-end accounting reviews.
- Work with auditors in circumstance where our clients are large enough to be audited. This will also include workpaper preparation.
- Tax skills. Income tax is a ticket to play in producing day to day income tax reconciliations, but more complex tax returns for large, consolidated tax groups. Understand FBT, GST, Stamp duty and more complex tax matters working with and implementing advices from BDO tax specialists.
- Interact with teams across service lines on our client matters.
- In some circumstances, but increasingly over time, participate in the communication of face-to-face delivery to clients.
- Willing to be in our office and travel to clients, communicate with clients with some clients being outside Sydney.
- Assisting with the design, development, and analysis of financial reporting models.
- Participate on tax planning issues, implementing tax planning and savings ideas for clients across large group client structures.
- Setting budgets for specific jobs, assist with managing work in progress (WIP) and billing and explaining parameters and scope to team.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Good technical tax and accounting skills required on larger client base and keen ambition to develop further.
- Ability to teach junior staff and confident in internal meetings with more senior staff, directors and partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-driven and assumes responsibility and accountability.
- Ability to monitor progress and remain 'across' jobs; owning them and striving to adhere to short and long-term deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong digital skills including a good working knowledge of MS Office. applications, cloud accounting platforms and add-ons.
- Willingness and ability to bring new ideas to the table.
- Strong Accounting and taxation is essential to your success in this role
- CA qualified or near CA qualified
