The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to be part of an organisation dedicated to nation-building renewable energy projects that will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.
The Equipment Standards Engineer will be responsible for the development and maintenance of technical standards and specifications for power systems equipment (including substation, transmission line and secondary system equipment), assessment of the performance of existing and new suppliers, and the assessment of risks of new technology and new equipment types and innovation.
You will actively assist with identification and investigation to provide cost effective solutions for safe, reliable service and achieving Transgrid’s strategic objectives.
In this role, you will also be responsible for representation of Transgrid on relevant national and international external bodies and provision of technical advice on power systems equipment. You will be assisting with defect and failure investigations and maintaining the feedback loop from in-service equipment experience.
About you
- Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- High level of experience in power system equipment area.
- Broad conceptual knowledge across all network asset functions and design process.
- High level of experience in Safety in Design and associated processes.
- Experience in assessing and managing equipment suppliers.
- Working knowledge of appropriate Australian and International Standards and Codes of Practice relevant to high voltage equipment.
- Knowledge and understanding of National Electricity Rules relevant legislation, policies and procedures applicable to the preparation of equipment standards and specifications
- Working knowledge of quality assurance processes to ensure that equipment meet quality requirements.
- High standard of professionalism, effective communication and personal integrity
- Awareness of the total asset lifecycle and ISO55001 requirements
- Awareness of principles of electrical networks operations and maintenance
- Developed abilities in managing change and risk
- Excellent communication skills including technical writing and making presentations to a variety of audiences
- Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with customers, management, and technical staff of other organisations
