Senior Biodiversity Conservation Officer
About the team
Join our passionate team and help the City protect and enhance its priority species and their habitats. The team of five is made up of dedicated ecologists with expertise in flora and fauna conservation. As a Senior Biodiversity Conservation Officer, you will assist the Team Leader in the delivery of actions from the Priority Species Conservation Program.
About your new role
The positions facilitate and manage a range of projects and actions under the City’s Priority Species Conservation Program and engage with project partner organisations and residents. The positions also provide specialised planning and policy advice relevant to the City’s priority species and natural environment to internal and external stakeholders including the Gold Coast community.

We're looking for people who have:
You are an individual that thrives on working within a team environment and can build strong working relationships with teammates and partner organisations to achieve conservation goals and aspirations.
To be successful in the role you will;
- Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in in conservation management, environmental science, wildlife biology or ecology, or similar, with demonstrated experience in conservation research and planning, community engagement and database management
- Ideally have extensive experience in scoping, procuring, managing and/or directly delivering conservation actions and projects related to plant and animal species
- Be a strong team player and contribute to a positive team environment in accordance with City workplace policies and practices, and the City’s corporate values and high-performance principles
- Have well-developed communication skills (interpersonal, written and verbal) with an ability to build and maintain professional and productive relationships with other City departments, government agencies, community organisations, community members and a wide variety of stakeholders
- Have demonstrated skills and experience in research, problem solving. Experience in the development of scientific methodologies is highly desirable
- Have experience in successfully managing the delivery of a work program with multiple conflicting priorities; ensuring program deliverables, deadlines and the completion of tasks and projects are met whilst achieving high quality outcomes
- Have experience in the coordination of other professional staff, consultants and volunteers.
- Have experience in managing and interrogating databases
- Have strong skills in Microsoft Office and GIS applications such as ArcMap
- Maintain a culture of health and safety in accordance with the City’s High-Performance Principles
- Demonstrate high attention to detail with an ability to analyse issues and problem solve.
- Previous experience in conservation planning and policy is highly desirable.
