A rewarding, ongoing opportunity to join Box Hill Institute as our Senior Child Safety Specialist (Child Safety Officer) within our People & Culture team!
The Senior Child Safety Specialist (Child Safety Officer) is accountable for working collaboratively with Box Hill Institute (BHI) faculties, divisions and stakeholders to ensure compliant Child Safety and wellbeing practices are embedded in BHI’s leadership, governance and culture. The position will focus on the creation of awareness, pro-active prevention, holistic investigation and case management and continuous business process improvement.
As the appointed Child Safety Officer for BHI, this position is the central authority for reporting, investigations and escalating allegations and Child Safety concerns. The position will be responsible for managing Child Safety incidents and liaising with stakeholders, monitoring incidents management to resolution, providing expert advice and strategies to appropriately respond to and provide impacted students with appropriate support.
The Senior Child Safety Specialist will assume a key driving role in BHI’s pursuit of quality excellence at all times whilst ensuring BHI’s practices adhere to Child Safe standards and legislations. The position will lead and implement a BHI wide child safe culture framework and action plan involving compliance, risk assessment and management, training, policy review and data analytics through a consultative and systematic approach.
The Senior Child Safety Specialist is a key subject matter expert in relation to Child Safety and wellbeing matters across the diverse BHI student and employee population from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds including students with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and students who identify in the LGBTQIA+ community. The position is expected to consult with key stakeholders and promptly act in circumstances where there is a risk that could result in adverse physical, mental and/or business impacts.

- Australian Psychological Society (APS)
- Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia
- (PACFA) or
- Australian Counselling Association (ACA)
- Demonstrated evidence of training in or familiarity in assessment and intervention skills for work with individuals, groups, families, organisation or communities
- Strong knowledge, understanding and ability to interpret Child Safe Standards and its associated legislations and practices such as Child Wellbeing and Safety Amendment Act 2021, Worker Screening Act 2020, Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and mandatory reporting obligations for reportable conducts
- Experience in conducting investigations and case management relating to Child Safety allegations and issues involving students and employees from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, disability, and/or LGBTQIA+ community
- Demonstrated experience in leading the promotion of Child Safety awareness programs across a large organisation
- Strong communication and negotiating skills along with ability to influence and engage with all levels of the organisation
- A valid Working with Children Check (WWC) (employee classification)
- Current (less than 5 years old) satisfactory National Police Check
