About the Role
Situated in the Safer Community Program (SCP), as Child Safety Advisor, you will act as the University's first point of contact for staff on all Child Safety matters. You will undertake a diverse set of responsibilities, including assessing and escalating reports of harm to children and young people and consulting with colleagues on Child Safety risk mitigation. As part of the SCP team, you will lend your expertise to enhance the practice of the SCP, through participation in case reviews, provision of case consultations and in collaboration with the SCP manager, the development and delivery of customised training for the SCP team.Your responsibilities will include:
  • Consulting with staff across the University on their obligations and duties under the University's Child Safety Policy and the Child Safe Standards
  • Assessing reports of harm to children and working with the Child Safety Officer
  • Providing advice on the implementation of child-facing activities in a diverse range of university settings
  • Proactively identifying and mitigating Child Safety risks in university programs, activities and events
Who we are looking for
Are you passionate about safeguarding the well-being of children? We are looking for an individual with proven expertise in responding to reports of harm to children, conducting comprehensive risk assessments, and implementing best practices. You will be able to engage with stakeholders at all levels, provide consultation to staff, including senior colleagues, and effectively managing Child Safety concerns across the university. If you have a track record in developing impactful Child Safety capacity building interventions, along with experience in preparing confidential reports and documentation, we want to hear from you.You will also have:
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
  • Demonstrated adoption of values by acting in the best interest of the University; displaying service excellence by striving to deliver beyond expectations and taking ownership of the delivery; and value working collaboratively, connecting with people and building relationships in your workplace.
  • Demonstrated understanding of University of Melbourne's Child Safety obligations, in accordance with relevant Victorian Child Safety legislative and policy frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking effective risk assessments, ideally relating to Child Safety and a relevant educational setting.

This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
