About the Role:

As a Senior Commercial Advisor within the Decarbonisation and Customer Strategy team (DCS), you will be a technical leader for the provision of high-quality commercial support to maximise value and minimise risk for C&I sales activity. The key accountability will be supporting the Business Development Managers in making sales to our strategic customers.

The DCS team in AGL's Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Customers business unit defines and executes market growth strategies and product innovation and provides analytics and commercial support to deliver on the vision of being the decarbonisation partner of choice for Australian businesses.

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing all necessary assistance to the Business Development Managers in the negotiation of terms and conditions with strategic C&I customers.
  • Developing, maintaining, and continuously improving our template agreements and Special Conditions for C&I and leading regulatory work and responses for C&I (working with the Legal and Regulatory teams).
  • Ensuring that the Business Development Managers are informed about all aspects of our terms and conditions and the legal considerations that relate to their roles.
  • Leading the facilitation and co-ordination of advice from Legal to C&I.
  • Reviewing contracts and providing departures based on AGL's business rules and assisting and equipping Sales teams with what they need to negotiate terms and conditions with the customer.
  • Applying a 'continuous improvement' approach to our processes to eliminate errors, reduce risk, maximise value and improve customer experience.
  • Providing drafts for customer communications of a technical nature in conjunction with internal stakeholders including Legal, Wholesale, Regulatory, Communications teams etc.
  • Providing expert input into tender responses by identifying and addressing legal and commercial issues, and providing considered responses to risk issues to key stakeholders, balancing AGL's risk position with commercial considerations.
  • Mentoring and training other team members in the technical aspects of their roles as required.

What you'll bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in law, and an excellent working knowledge of the energy industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in contract law combined with the ability to review, understand, draft, explain, and advise on complex contractual terms.
  • Experience in negotiation, contract development and contract management, coupled with strong attention to detail with well-developed skills in legal risk analysis.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, organisation and prioritisation skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • The ability to mentor and share knowledge with other team members and create strong internal relationships built on credible performance, collaboration, and emotional intelligence.
