The opportunity:

We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Consultant to join our growing NSW Social Planning team, based in Sydney. The goal of the Social Planning team is to support clients to design and plan in social value creation.

As a Senior Consultant in the Social Planning team, you will need to demonstrate an understanding of the social challenges and opportunities facing cities and communities across New South Wales to inform social and strategic planning outcomes. You will be able to demonstrate experience and interest in most of the following areas:

• Social impact assessments (SIA)
• Social baseline and community needs analysis
• Safety through environment and design
• Social and community infrastructure strategies and assessments
• Social value creation and measurement
• Housing including social and affordable housing
• Open space, sport and recreation, arts and culture
• Retail, commercial, industrial and mixed use

You will:

• Provide advisory services to internal and external clients on strategies, policies, mechanisms and influences relating to Social Planning and social value creation
• Conduct primary and secondary research, including qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, ABS and other publicly available data, literature review, social policy, community engagement outcomes and best practice trends in a range of Social Planning and social value matters
• Develop internal and external client relationships by building trust and providing high-quality and timely advice on impacts and issues affecting cities and communities
• Write concise reports and submissions with well evidenced advice that addresses client needs
• Prepare and deliver effective presentations in a variety of forums, including client meetings, council presentations, and engagement with stakeholders and communities
• Write and prepare compelling proposals for prospective clients
• Manage small to medium size projects, including scoping and costing of projects, tracking job costs and coordinating consultants and sub-consultants, when necessary

About You:

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant social science discipline (e.g., sociology, human geography, anthropology, social or community planning)
• Proven experience over multiple years and substantial competence in application of social science research methods and/or SIA practice
• Demonstrated experience in Social Planning or strategy desirable, ideally gained in a consultancy or local council environment
