Senior Design Draftsperson - Power Systems/Multidiscipline

As we expand our new Power and Energy Business Unit, we are seeking a dynamic and ambitious individual to join our team in the pivotal role of a Senior Design Draftsperson. 

Job Summary: 

As a Senior Design Draftsperson you will play a key role in the establishment and growth of our new Power and Energy Business Unit. The role will work alongside the Design and Engineering Manager and closely support the project design and delivery team. This position involves engaging with technical stakeholders to ensure seamless design planning and the formulation of innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will embody qualities such as honesty, resiliency, and pragmatism as well as a strong work ethic coupled with a high attention to detail. A passion for learning is key for success and the candidate will participate in a tailored training plan to support the position.  

The position will be exposed to a varied range of engineering disciplines associated with the delivery of Power and Energy equipment. These include, primarily, Electrical, Mechanical and Renewables along with some Structural and Civil exposure. The position will appeal to candidates who enjoy a being involved in project work from ‘cradle to grave’ encompassing all aspects of design. Experience in a previous engineering or construction industry role is essential. 

As the Senior Design Draftsperson you will be responsible for all the design/drafting of project work packages and their associated drawings as well as ensuring all work is completed to a high standard and on schedule. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Planning and Coordinate the Design Process for Projects, including assistance with scheduling and budgets. 
• Document Management and Control. 
• Contribute design and develop turnkey power and energy systems.  
• Ensure designs comply with the relevant codes and standards. 
• Provide technical feedback to support team members and stakeholders.  
• Prepare drawings as required including 2D & 3D models, schematics, SLDs, site plans, survey layout, sections and elevations, cable routes, P&ID etc. 
• Apply best practice engineering principles and standards in the design and preparation of drawings. 
• Set out and fully dimension drawings to a high, systematic standard, utilizing standards such as AS1100. 
• Ensure compliance with all record keeping as per company QA policies. 
• Manage drawing revisions and review, including Red-lines and mark ups. 
• Create termination drawings, equipment schedules and technical registers. 
• Identify and report changes to project scope. 

Qualifications, Skills, Personal Attributes and Experience  

Essential 

• Proficiency in Autodesk’s AutoCAD and Revit software along with the Microsoft Office Suite. 
• 4 + years experience in Design Drafting 
• Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards for example AS3000, AS61439. 
• Great attention to detail. 
• Willing to learn with an adaptable, flexible, and positive attitude. 
• Excellent communication skills 
• TAFE qualification, associate degree or demonstrated industry experience to match role requirements. 
• Ability and willingness to adapt, quickly learn and use new skills and knowledge. 
• An understanding of the MEP disciplines. 

Desirable 

• An engineering based Undergraduate/Postgraduate Degree or trade background. 
• Understanding of or exposure to PLC control systems and SCADA. 
• Technical knowledge of switchgear and control assemblies. 
• Familiarity with Surveying geospatial systems and general integration of GIS and drafting software. 
• Awareness of BIM and the relevant associated standards. 
• Formal training and qualification endorsed by Autodesk. 
• Awareness or experience in 12d drafting Solutions.
