About the Role

The Senior Early Childhood Educator will work with children and their families to maximise the potential of all children in meeting their developmental and unique needs in a holistic and integrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander early learning setting. The role will specifically:

  • Deliver high-quality education and care programs in line with the National Quality Framework (NQF), Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the values and historical experiences of ATSICHS Brisbane as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation.
  • Proactively plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate play-based programs and early learning experiences for individual children and groups of children, as part of a team learning environment with colleagues.
  • Build and maintain close relationships with parents/guardians of the children, through constant communication, to meet the needs of individual families.
  • Remove access barriers to children by delivering the transport service, picking-up and dropping-off children that otherwise would not have access to quality early years learning.

Duties

Performance: Meet individual child and family education and care targets as per weekly, monthly and quarterly dashboard system.

Quality Care and Education Pedagogy and Learning Activities: Provide high quality and intent-based early years care and education pedagogy and experiences that is uniquely tailored to individual children and their needs, consistent with the ATSICHS values and vision.

Observations, Recording Learning Progress and Program Improvement: Provide high quality learning experiences through ongoing adjustments to children’s learning activities, in accordance to observations and documenting learning journey.

Family Engagement: Demonstrate positive and warm engagement with children’s families that connects the classroom to their home.

Access: Remove access barriers and provide all children with the opportunity to attend a quality early learning service, no matter their family’s financial and social situation.

Additional Role Specific Activities and Functions:  Assist in the delivery and operations of early learning care and education activities.

Commit to a high level of quality management for ATSICHS through use of LogiQC quality management systems and MobNet tasks.

Cultivate productive working relationships at all levels, which support the nurturing of internal and external relationships, facilitates cooperation, trust and respect, values differences and diversity and guides, mentors and focuses on the development of staff.

COVID-19 Requirement

  • Immunisation history showing  you have received two doses of a Covid -19 vaccine is encouraged.

Qualification and/or Experience:

  • Diploma of Children’s Services
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an early education setting

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge about the developmental stages for children 0-5 years of age.
  • Demonstrated knowledge about holistic approaches when working with children in meeting the totality of their needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge about the ‘Early Years Framework’ and its implications and requirements in delivering quality care and education services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge on recording observations, analysing learning and planning for new learning opportunities for children
  • Demonstrated knowledge or an eagerness to learn about the factors contributing to vulnerability and intergenerational trauma of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal skills, including the ability to record observations and document progress of children’s learning. 
  • Current National Police Check
  • Current Driver licence
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety
  • Working with Children’s Check (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply

Desirable but not mandatory

  • Transport experience in an Early Childhood setting.
