Job description

Reporting directly to the General Manager – Venue Sales & Marketing, the Senior Business Development Manager is responsible for instigating and managing Business Development of the Royal International Convention Centre (Royal ICC) & Brisbane Showgrounds at a national level. To attract corporate, exhibition and association clientele, maximising revenue and developing new business, utilising professional account management and relationship optimisation strategies.

The Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA) owns and operates the historic Brisbane Showgrounds precinct, home to the iconic Royal Queensland Show and more than 300 events a year. The 22 hectare precinct, just 1.5kms from the CBD attracts a million visitors a year and is the state’s largest indoor / outdoor events space featuring the vibrant King Street dining precinct and the five star Royal International Convention Centre.

Job tasks and responsibilities:

  • Provide input into the development and implementation of effective marketing plans and sales strategies within defined budgets.
  • Promote the Brisbane Showgrounds and Royal ICC to existing and potential local clients, visitors and delegates through personal visits, tourism media, networking events, industry bodies, trade fairs and digital media.
  • Prepare and execute quotations, contracts, site inspections and licence agreements within established guidelines.
  • Manage existing and potential client relationships and develop and maintain strategic relationships with relevant industry bodies.
  • Attract new clients and business to the Royal ICC and associated RNA venues.
  • Provide input on the development and maintenance of marketing collateral and communications consistent with the RNA brand.
  • Monitor and positively contribute to client satisfaction and community perceptions and utilise feedback to positively enhance the RNA brand.
  • Develop and maintain a customer service program to foster client loyalty and commitment.
  • Organise with the General Manager – Venue Sales & Marketing and attend interstate sales call activities as per the activity plan.

Skills and experience:

Essential -

  • 5-7 years' experience in a Business Development role, preferably within convention, exhibition, tourism and/or hospitality industries
  • 2-3 years' experience in managing staff and their KPI's.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Tourism or Hospitality.
  • Demonstrated experience in achieving and exceeding revenue targets, KPI's and financial targets.
  • Demonstrated ability in identifying and winning new accounts and developing and/or retaining existing clients
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills combined with sound commercial acumen and understanding of business planning, budgeting and financial analysis.
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills.
  • Intermediate level of ability with all Microsoft programs.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal and relationship management skills to effectively influence and persuade clients.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Desirable -

  • Knowledgeable in EBMS (Event Business Management System);
  • Background in Event Management.
  • Knowledge of National Corporate Sector and/or Associations.
  • Background or understanding of the Exhibition Industry & events.
