The Town

A job at the Town of Port Hedland offers a unique opportunity to fast-track your career while working in the economic powerhouse of Australia. Port Hedland is a crucial part of Western Australia and the nation’s economy, and is often described as the engine room of Australia. With billions of dollars of crucial minerals exported through the port of Port Hedland, the Town is a bustling hub with a diverse community.

As the Local Government Authority of such an activity-rich region, the Town of Port Hedland tackles unique challenges that give employees a chance to grow and development beyond peers in other Local Government areas.

Meanwhile, residents of Port Hedland can take advantage of a relaxed lifestyle and explore the beauty of the North West with Karratha, Karijini and Broome all nearby. If you’re looking for a unique adventure and a chance to accelerate your career, you’ve found it.

The Role

As a Senior Governance Advisor, you’ll work closely alongside the Manager Governance to lead an engaged and dedicated team committed to quality. We’re all about contemporary and effective governance services that support the Town to be accountable, efficient, transparent and compliant. Plus, our team is a primary support function to the elected Council which makes key decisions about the future of Hedland.

Our ideal candidate will be an expert in governance and great at building effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You’ll be calm under pressure, brilliant at managing multiple deadlines and have a great eye for detail. Strong communication skills are a must, alongside an ability to interpret Acts and other relevant legislation into meaningful and accurate advice to our internal stakeholders.

It's an exciting time to join the Governance team as it grows from strength to strength within an organisation that is embracing change – from new technologies to investing in large infrastructure projects focused on making Hedland an even better place to live, work and play. Come and be a part of it!
