About the Role:
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced legal professional to take on a position delivering high-quality Corporate Legal Services to an organization that helps vulnerable and disadvantaged Queenslanders. As the Senior Lawyer in Legal Aid Queensland's (LAQ) Corporate Law Services team you will provide advice to Legal Aid Queensland on contract law, administrative law, legislation and policies.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Providing of advice on contracts including drafting contracts and amendments.
- Assisting in commercial and legal aspects of contract development and management, including agreements with suppliers of Legal Services, leases and major contractors.
- Provide assistance to the Chief Executive Officer and the executive on legal issues as required including:
- Managing responses to complaints from the Ombudsman's Office relating to the ethical and professional behaviour and competency of Legal Aid lawyers, and to complaints received through the Legal Services Commission, Queensland Law Society and Bar Association of Queensland.
- Providing advice and support to Legal Aid lawyers in relation to individual complaints received by lawyers through the Legal Services Commission, Queensland Law Society and Bar Association of Queensland.
- Conducting reviews of decisions on requests for information and provide guidance and expert legal advice regarding sound decision making practices and protection and release of information and documents held by Legal Aid Queensland.
- Experience drafting contracts and in contract management.
- You can gather and investigate information, translate information for others and provide impartial and forthright advice
- You have knowledge of administrative law including Queensland's administrative privacy scheme, Judicial Review Act 1991, Right to Information Act 2009, Information Privacy Act 2009 and other relevant legislation.
