We are looking for a legal professional to take on a position delivering high-quality legal services to vulnerable and disadvantaged Queenslanders. As a Senior Lawyer, you will represent the best interests of children and young people and where appropriate act as direct representative.
In this role you will:
- Act in the child's best interests as a independent childrens lawyer, as a direct representative for young people, including providing advice, preparing matters, instructing counsel and advocating in complex family law, child protection and related matters.
- Provide duty lawyer services, legal information and advice to clients and the public.
- Make referrals to other services, as appropriate, to assist to meet their needs.
- Help the Principal Lawyers to supervise legal work and develop the legal skills of, train and guide staff within Family Law Services, Legal Aid Queensland lawyers state-wide, and external legal practitioners, regarding family law practices and procedures and related matters.
- Contribute to team planning and suggest improvements to work practices.
- Help prepare submissions and assist the Family Law Services directorate to lead Legal Aid Queensland's contributions to policy, procedure, law reform and legal service delivery initiatives in relation to family law and related matters, and contribute to operational planning within Legal Aid Queensland.
