We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join Office of the General Counsel, Chancellery Division.
The Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with the Director, Legal Services, General Legal to provide in-house legal advice to officers of the University, including the Vice-Chancellor, University Registrar and other members of the senior executive, on a wide range of complex legal issues, which mayinclude:
- Commercial matters,
- Procurement,
- IT services,
- Property transactions, and
- Student issues.
The Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for building strong relationships within the QUT community in the delivery of high quality legal advice and services. The Senior Legal Counsel is expected to serve the best interests of the University but also to comply with the standards of conduct requiredfor members of the legal profession. This position reports to the Director, Legal Services, General Legal for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

The Office of the General Counsel is led by the General Counsel and is responsible for providing legal services to the University. What you need to succeed
- Admission as a Legal practitioner in the State of Queensland with an unrestricted practising certificate with at least 6 years post-admission legal experience (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated ability to draft a wide variety of complex legal documents, with particular emphasis on drafting of contracts and agreements in a plain English drafting style.
- Demonstrated ability to provide practical advice on a variety of legal matters, and demonstrated ability to handle and resolve complex legal issues.
- Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills to effectively communicate and liaise with clients within the University at all levels.
- Demonstrated written communication skills, including the ability to communicate practical legal advices to a diverse range of clients across the University.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritise tasks to manage competing deadlines and meet timeframes required for advices and agreements, with the proven ability to manage a high volume of work with broad direction and minimal supervision only. Demonstrated attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy with minimal supervision.
