What you will be doing:

The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS)

If you're passionate about Global Health and strategic program management, the position of Senior Manager Global Health at the NCIRS could be for you. Your expertise will help drive our Global Health programs, foster crucial partnerships, and align initiatives with strategic goals for real impact. You will be a leader in our growing team of more than a dozen Global Health specialists working collaboratively to strengthen immunisation and vaccine-preventable disease control with >10 countries in the Indo-Pacific.

Your new role:

  • Provide vital support to the NCIRS Director as a member of the Global Health Leadership group in shaping regional and Global Health programs, identifying business opportunities, and offering strategic advice to guide our work
  • Co-lead the development and successful implementation of a comprehensive Global Health 5 year strategic plan
  • Oversee the Global Health program, driving growth and development, resource mobilisation, and evaluation
  • Strengthen relationships with influential stakeholders including Australian partners, UN agencies, international government bodies, and international partners. Represent NCIRS at critical meetings and conferences
  • Deliver strategic financial leadership, ensuring effective business and work planning across NCIRS Global Health. Manage financial forecasting and budgeting for sustained success
  • Demonstrate innovation through best practices, foster collaboration, and contribute to overall Global team management to achieve impactful global programming.

This appointment will be full-time temporary for 12 months, with anticipated extension for another 3 years.

About NCIRS

The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) is the leading organisation in Australia in immunisation and vaccines that provides expert advice to support evidence-informed immunisation policy and guideline development, evaluation of immunisation programs, particularly the National Immunisation Program, and the monitoring of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccine coverage and factors impacting uptake, and vaccine safety. NCIRS has national and international recognition in this arena and has a growing program of international work through our Global Health team, focused on partnering with countries in immunisation system strengthening in multiple settings across the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. 

NCIRS is a collaborative team of experts in public health, biostatistics, infectious diseases, paediatrics, internal medicine, epidemiology, communication, social science and quantitative and qualitative research and survey methods. http://www.ncirs.org.au/

The Centre is based within the Division of Research of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, Westmead Campus, NSW, Australia, but has an all-age research remit and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases (Sydney ID) at the University of Sydney. NCIRS is funded primarily by the Australian Government and NSW Government, as well as via grants from WHO, Gavi, and research granting bodies. 

Please note that throughout the recruitment process you will be assessed with the following:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in a health, development, or academic related field with significant subsequent experience in Global Health, development or academic environment, or equivalent work experience.
  2. A minimum eight years' experience working with multilateral and/or Global Health institutions and demonstrated experience of international development and Global Health and immunisation policy and program in low and middle income settings, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. Country- specific experience delivering immunisation technical cooperation in Indo-Pacific Countries, is a plus.
  3. Proven experience in developing high-quality strategic business plans as well as securing multi-year funding and resources from a wide-variety stakeholders across government, multilateral institutions, and non-state institutions.
  4. Demonstrated excellent organisational skills, including project planning and management, business planning, financial and effective team management. Experience in managing strategy and governance processes in Global Health organizations, a plus.
  5. Demonstrated excellent leadership, networking, influencing skills, and ability to negotiate and develop productive working and collaborative relationships with a range of health professionals and immunisation and public health program stakeholders; and high-level strategic external partners, such as the Australian Government, and a wide range of national and international collaborators including UN Agencies, public- private institutions and foreign governments.
  6. Exceptional communication skills including high level report writing, strong presentation skills and demonstrated ability to impart complex content and issues in an engaging and informative style.
  7. Thorough understanding of current trends and issues in Global Health, a detailed understanding of the broader aspects of Global Health immunisation practice and an understanding of relevant management policy, procedures, and networks.

  1. In a growing Global Health program how do you approach developing and delivering on a portfolio of work with a diverse team of technical, administrative, and operational staff? Can you provide an example of a program management role that demonstrates your experience and capabilities in this area.
  2. How do you approach developing and managing strategic partnerships with key Global Health stakeholders such as government agencies, UN bodies, and international organisations? Can you share an example of a successful partnership you've facilitated and the steps you took to ensure its success, including navigating potential competing interests and agendas? If possible, please select an example in the field of immunisation or communicable disease control.
