How will I help?
As a Senior Manager you will support the Head of Group Sanctions in identifying, assessing, managing and mitigating Economic and Trade Sanctions risks arisen from business activities across the Bank. You will be responsible for effecting change and providing subject matter expert advice and oversight of sanctions risks, including for new change initiatives. This role sits within the second line.
Responsibilities are but not limited to:
Providing compliance and risk advice to Westpac’s lines of business on Economic and Trade Sanctions risks.
Partnering with the business to provide specialist advice, oversight, check and challenge in relation to Economic and Trade Sanctions risks, in areas such as:
Sanctions risk identification, assessment, management, and mitigation.
Ensuring risks are identified in a timely manner, appropriately recorded, reported, escalated, and remediated.
Ensuring controls and operational processes are appropriately designed to identify, manage, and mitigate the risk(s), and they remain appropriate and effective in the context of new business initiatives, regulatory or Westpac policy change, and in consideration of industry best practice.
Suggesting measures to enhance the effectiveness of existing controls over time, including through reviewing findings from audit, testing, and assurance reviews (internal and external) and considering industry best practice.
Monitoring sanctions laws and regulations in the relevant jurisdictions and analyse the impacts on the Bank’s operations.
Providing advice to the Head of Group Sanctions on the trends, emerging issues, remedial actions and enhancements to the sanctions program.
Work collaboratively with the team to provide advice to business with respect to applicability of policies and implementation of the economic sanctions program and regulatory changes.
Providing guidance to the sanctions screening operations (FCFP) in light of new or updated standards and procedures.
Providing input on new business initiatives, new product and advise on complex transactions and client review escalations.

What do I need?
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years sanctions compliance experience derived from roles within either banking, consultancy, legal or government. A comprehensive and demonstrated knowledge of Economic and Trade Sanctions legislation, including key challenges, risks, trends, and regulatory environment. Degree qualified in a Law, Business or Finance related discipline. A broad understanding of bank products and process, systems and policies is preferable across multiple business divisions.
You will have commercial acumen and experience dealing with and managing senior business stakeholders as well as experience in collaborating with and influencing others within a team environment to provide quality and consistent advice on sanctions risks.
Your ability to be highly proactive, accountable and to execute responsibilities with professionalism and integrity with a track record of achievement, delivery, resilience and resolve in challenging situations to ensure that effective action is taken and issues escalated and dealt with as required, will see you succeed in this role.
