Senior Microbiology Department Supervisor | Pharmaceutical
Purpose of the role:
This position has the responsibility for all microbiological aspects in the laboratory, including regulatory compliance relating to Quality Assurance and Quality Control to ensure that the manufacturing environment, processes and products are within specification.

- Maintain efficient functioning of the Microbiology Department.
- Ensure the maintenance of records of all testing is performed.
- Ensure calibration, maintenance, validation and requalification of Micro Laboratory equipment is performed within GMP, regulatory and legislative compliance requirements.
- Ensure safe and good work practices in the laboratory.
- Develop and assess Microbiological Testing procedures of materials and products, ensuring all GMP, Safety, Corporate, Regulatory, and Legislative compliance requirements are met.
- Review and develop environmental monitoring programs and actions from data trending analysis.
- Provide technical support to relevant stakeholders.
- Observe and monitor laboratory and production procedures in order to recommend and initiate improvements in standards and efficiencies.
- Implement projects to provide supporting data for customer and laboratory practices.
- Proactively review and recommend improvements and efficiencies in testing methodologies and process.
- Training, development and performance management of direct reports.
- Assess laboratory performance through KPI’s.
- Recommend and implement improvements.
- Internal and external audit preparation, representation, and action follow through.
- Oversee the maintenance, updating and validation of procedures in the Microbiology laboratory.
- Develop and assess the maintenance, updating and validation of procedures involving environmental monitoring, equipment cleaning and sanitizing.
- Project work to support customer requirements and internal practices.
- Develop processes to assist in quality assurance and contamination control.
- Assist in new formulation development.
- Lead and mentor the team to ensure cohesion, good morale and productivity.
