About the role
Senior Planner is responsible for the development of forward thinking, multi-driver responsive, customer focussed, integrated urban water servicing plans. This drives direction for water and wastewater assets that ultimately are converted into projects to achieve waterway outcomes.
In a time where the direction and value of water is critical for Sydney and with the roll out of Sydney Water’s Long-Term Capital and Operating Plan (LTCOP) this role is critical in the shaping of these outcomes and understanding how we use water and manage wastewater across the city. This role sits within the integrated planning team as part of systems and asset planning.
Responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:
· Lead the development of planning activities and processes including preparing strategic and detailed plans and business cases
· Develop and continually review and improve the plans required by Sydney Water’s Planning Framework, consistent with Sydney Water’s Long Term Capital and Operating Plan and Corporate Strategy, as related to treatment.
· Realise within plans, integration opportunities across systems, drivers, customers, catchments, resources, materials, products and services to ensure best value for money outcomes.
· Manage ambiguity and effectively balance risk and cost in the best interests of customers and championing innovative and efficient solutions that challenge traditional approaches.
· Engage with customers, community, regulators, government and business stakeholders to deliver market relevant servicing options.
· Build and ensure people, process, information and technology capabilities are adequate for the long-term success of the team and work with others to promote and influence improvement.
· Represent SW at Water Industry peak bodies and outwardly promote the achievements of Sydney Water
About you
· Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Infrastructure Development, Project or Program Management, Business Management, Planning, Economics, Science, or a related discipline
· Demonstrated experience (a minimum of 6 years) in leading teams, coaching, developing and performance management.
· Post-graduate qualifications will be advantageous but are not essential.
· Experience in water or wastewater treatment planning, design and/or operations will be highly regarded, but not essential
· Knowledge of economic, financial and other quantitative appraisal methods to evaluate merits of planning decisions.
· Change management with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive change.
· Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish a high degree of credibility at all levels across organisations (internal and external to Sydney Water).
