Job Summary

The Senior Policy Advisor's role within ATCO Australia’s regulated energy business is to provide advanced analysis, interpretation, and influential contributions to legislative and policy frameworks to achieve optimal outcomes for the business. The role crafts sophisticated and strategic policy recommendations, anticipates and navigates complex legislative changes, and collaborates with stakeholders to drive outcomes aligned with the company's objectives in the dynamic energy sector.

You will join a diversified corporation with investments all over the globe. ATCO has been "Always there. About the role

  • Provide expert assessment into legislative changes, recommending adjustments to policies and extracting key insights for internal and external stakeholders, including potentially contentious issues.
  • Monitor, respond to, and provide sophisticated insights into policy changes at the state and national levels impacting ATCO’s operating environment.
  • Analyse proposals for policy and changes, determining and assessing impacts on ATCO’s business and provide expert advice on a position to be adopted.
  • Analyse existing regulatory frameworks at an advanced level and drive the delivery of energy policy to achieve efficient customer outcomes.
  • Cultivate and maintain high-level relationships with key stakeholders, providing advanced advice and strategic guidance on current and future market factors in the energy and utilities sector.
  • Support the development of internal policies and positions at an advanced level based on policy analysis and alignment with ATCO’s business strategy.
  • Prepare high quality submissions on relevant issues to state and national departments or agencies, contributing to proactive and reactive government stakeholder engagement.
  • Work collaboratively across the organisation at an advanced level to provide expertise in government stakeholder engagement and contribute to ATCO’s communications and gas advocacy efforts.
  • Contribute to ATCO’s communications and gas advocacy work with state, local, and national government stakeholders.
  • Anticipate and track upcoming policy consultation processes and inform the team of potential opportunities for engagement.
  • Prepare briefing material at an expert level to support ATCO’s engagement with government Minister and officials.

What we are looking for

  • Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex policy issues.
  • Relevant experience in policy analysis, regulatory affairs, or a related field in the energy sector.
  • Proven experience in developing strategic policy recommendations
  • Advanced understanding of government operations and legislation interpretation.
  • Expert knowledge of energy markets and economic regulatory frameworks of utility businesses
  • Advocacy experience on policy issues and a track record of successful stakeholder collaboration.
