The Intergovernmental Relations Directorate is the State Government's and Department's key advisor on Commonwealth-State matters. It also drives collaboration across the Western Australian Government on key intergovernmental policy priorities, strengthens inter-jurisdictional relationships and works to achieve better outcomes for Western Australia in relation to Commonwealth-State policy priorities.
The Intergovernmental Relations Directorate consists of the Intergovernmental Relations unit (IGR), the Office of State Security and Emergency Management (OSSEM) and the Indian Ocean Territories unit.
In leading engagement with the Australian Government and states and territories, the IGR unit provides advice to the WA Government regarding the negotiation of major funding agreements and policy commitments, and develops briefings for government, such as to support the Premier's participation in National Cabinet meetings.
OSSEM supports WA's involvement in national security and emergency management policy, including national counter-terrorism arrangements. It works across government to support recovery efforts following natural disasters.
There are currently two (2) Senior Policy Officer positions available within the Directorate.
- One (1) permanent position available for immediate filling within the IGR unit.
- One (1) fixed term position for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension within OSSEM.
About the Role
The Senior Policy Officer provides policy support and advice to the Manager and assists with research and analysis in relation to the development, implementation and review of Government priorities from a cross portfolio and national perspective.
One position is focused on national security and emergency management policy so candidates with experience in these areas are encouraged to provide details in their application.
