Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.
We are seeking an experienced & highly capable Senior Process Operator to join our site based Processing team.
This role is responsible for assisting the Production Supervisor in leading a team of Process Operators engaged in the safe and environmentally responsible operations of the Karara Magnetite Concentrator, including but not limited to: crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, flotation, thickening, filtration (concentrate/tailings) and Control Room Operations.
The Senior Process Operator will also act in the full capacity of the Production Supervisor role during periods of absence, fulfilling all responsibilities of the role.
This position operates on an 8 days on 6 days off and 7 nights on 7 days off continuous roster.
Duties & responsibilities:
- Responsible for overseeing the daily execution of operational tasks and activities within the plant in close consultation with the Production Supervisor and all instructions are executed in a safe a timely manner, progress is monitored and reported against accordingly.
- Liaise with relevant personnel to identify Permit to Work and Isolation requirements.
- Act as the first response for Process Operators in regard to production related issues.
- Escalate any production related issues as required to the Production Supervisor for further action or assistance.
- Ensure consistency in plant operation across shifts by following all operational systems and procedures, thus setting the example for other processing personnel.
- Act in the full capacity of the Production Supervisor s role during their absence, thus fulfilling all responsibilities and obligations associated with that role.
- Step in and operate specific operational areas of the processing plant, as required.
- Conduct training and assessing of Process Operators whilst managing the Training Matrix for their respective team.
- Ensure that all team members are appropriately trained and competent to safely and efficiently carry out their roles.
- Liaise with metallurgy, maintenance, mining and TSF operators and train loading.
- Ensure effective housekeeping in the plant.
- Daily reporting to Production Supervisor and Production Coordinator on all activities, downtime and production issues.
- Work closely with the Production Supervisor and Production Coordinator to ensure the production team facilitate safe and efficient access to plant and equipment for planned maintenance purposes.
- Work closely with the Metallurgy team to identify process issues.
- Identify and communicate to appropriate personnel any issues or incidents during shift.
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience, preferably in a Processing mining environment
- Permit to Work or Officer Control Room step-up experience
- WA ‘C’ Class drivers’ license
- Schedule 26
- Level 1 & Level 2 Isolator
- Forklift (HRWL LF)
- Overhead Gantry Crane
- Confined Space Ticket
- Working at Heights
- IT Carrier Certificate
- Excellent mechanical aptitude with proven experience in a leadership role
- Sound written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated understanding of mineral processing
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications
- National Police Clearance
- Must have Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
