This is an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary project team to help deliver a significant, high profile ecotourism project – The Wangetti Trail. The Wangetti Trail is a pilot project of the Queensland Ecotourism Trails program, undertaken by the Department in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport. The Role oversees design and construction of the southern section of the Wangetti Trail through which formal QPWS design specifications will also be developed in parallel for use in future QPWS trail constructions. The role also oversees design and construction of project associated public visitor facilities within Mowbray and Macalister Range national parks in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

As the Senior Project Officer, you will:
- Plan and co-ordinate the design development and implementation of the construction elements of the Wangetti Trail project, including experience working with project contractors (under s34 NCA authority), traditional owner groups, Departmental staff, the WTMA and other service providers.
- As the QPWS field representative oversee project tasks, including reviewing and providing advice on the planning, delivery and reporting of work schedules, milestones, budget, and expenditure, in consultation with the Principal Ranger, partners and stakeholders.
- Provide high level advice regarding project compliance with legislation, government approvals, specification and QPWS&P policies and procedures, including environmental protection, Work Health and Safety and relevant licences.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure including managing competing priorities to meet deadlines and commitments, researching, and analysing information, preparation and review and progress of briefings, project plans, correspondence, reports and submissions regarding the development, progress and delivery of the project.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with the design and construction contractor as well as stakeholders including within DES; Commonwealth, other State agencies, local governments, WTMA, Traditional Owners and their representatives, the tourism industry, and relevant commercial entities to achieve good outcomes for the project.
