About The Role
The Lead Planner will support the Manager Project Delivery Services in the governance of portfolio of projects and provide specialist planning support and guidance to the project team in the timely completion of projects schedule within the approved capital expenditure and business milestone targets.
The role involves robust participation and interaction with Study Managers, Project Managers, Lead Package Engineers, Contracts and Procurement team, Service Providers, Vendors and Stakeholders required in the development of project master schedules, monitoring and control and portfolio planning. Experienced in progress tracking, schedule performance analysis, schedule forecasting and ability to effectively communicate issues, concerns, and mitigation to the wider delivery team to meet approved baseline targets, is a must. Ability to perform What-If schedules and knowledge in forensic planning a plus.
The role functionally reports to the project services group and is assigned to project teams for study development and / or project delivery of Iluka’s major capital projects as well as performing portfolio planning concurrently.
Reporting to the Manager Project Delivery Services, the Lead Planner will be responsible for:
Guide and assist the Study Manager and / or Project Manager in the development and review of the project controls management strategy and plan, including preparation the Basis of Schedule document.
Guide the design of the project WBS in line with Iluka’s Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) framework requirements and contribute to both individual Project Execution Plan and Contract and Procurement Plan.
Create and manage study and project baseline schedules to achieve approved milestone targets.
Configure the Baseline Schedule to align with cost budgeting and work package plan to enable Earned Value (EV) measurement across contract packages.
Liaise with and integrate vendor and contractor schedules into the project master schedule.
Allocate resources to project activities, assess and level workloads where possible.
Engage with Package (Project) Engineers, vendors, and contractors for monitoring and analytical reporting of project progress against the baseline schedule.
Track forecast and baseline variances, including the tracking of changes to identify potential or existing problems and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
Provide forecasting and trend information on milestone dates based on status to date and project knowledge.
Provide and contribute inputs to project reports.
Effectively communicate with the project management team on their scope of work schedule details, milestones, upcoming works, slippage, and any required corrective action.
Ability to generate scenario schedules and conduct forensic planning as required.
Undertake reviews of extension of time claims when required.
About You
We are looking for someone with the ability to develop implement and communicate project specific procedures, processes and standards relating to project planning. You will have demonstrated organisational skills with the capacity to multitask concurrent activities across a range of projects. This coupled with your strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate will make a positive impact across our business.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
5 to 10 years of strong and solid experience in project planning gained in a resource’s environment. Experience in portfolio planning highly regarded.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of scheduling applications such as Primavera P6 and MS Project.
Sound understanding of project planning processes and techniques including knowledge of earned value management and change management.
Understanding of project management and engineering methodologies throughout the project lifecycle, specifically in both study development and project delivery areas.
Previous experience in related industries.
