Salary: $117,544.00- $120,393.00 base salary per annum

About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the Speech Pathology Department.
The Speech Pathologist is responsible for providing services to patients referred for communication and swallowing disorders associated with Head and Neck cancers and the ENT caseload within St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. The Speech Pathologist manages complex presentations relating to laryngectomy and tracheostomy care. The Speech Pathologist will demonstrate high levels of expertise and knowledge and will show leadership, manage specific projects and act as a resource in the department in their area of clinical specialty.
This position is responsible for the supervision of junior speech pathology staff and the clinical education of speech pathology students as required. The Speech Pathologist is expected to participate in weekend cover, team activities, quality improvement activities, relevant research, and development of policies and procedures, as directed by the manager.

About you:
We are seeking a skilled and energetic Speech Pathologist who possess a passion for person centred care. We welcome applications from people who:
Provide high level clinical speech pathology services for complex patients with swallowing and/or communication disorders relating to Head and Neck cancers and the ENT caseload
Develop and maintain effective collaboration with members of the ENT multidisciplinary team and speech pathology department
Enables interaction and facilitates optimal communication between patients and residents and their families and care providers
Actively develops and maintains clinical expertise in the area of clinical specialty
Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to peers and staff; provide a consultancy service in these areas across an area, geographic region or clinical network
Be a professional leader for the departmental competency framework as clinically indicated for advanced practice skills including videofluoroscopy (VFSS), FEES, tracheostomy and laryngectomy management.
To participate in diagnostic clinic for VFSS and perform roles and responsibilities appropriate to competency level.
To provide a consultancy service in clinical specialty across geographic region or clinical network.
Identify opportunities for service development including review and implementation of evidenced-based practice and enables others to readily adapt to change.
Assist the speech pathology manager in the planning, implementing, evaluating and reporting of clinical services in the area of expertise.
Works together with other teams to initiate and lead clinical research/quality improvement activities
Proactively recognises need for innovation and improvement, and initiates efforts to explore alternative solutions
Supervise speech pathology students on clinical placement as required
Undertake administrative responsibilities including activity data collection
Actively participate in departmental clinical supervision, professional development and annual performance appraisal
Undertake other duties as requested by the department manager

Selection Criteria:
Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
Bachelor or post-graduate degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent and eligibility for full practicing membership of the Speech Pathology Australia Association
Demonstrated high level knowledge and advanced clinical expertise in the management of adult dysphagia and communication disorders within the Head and Neck cancer population including evidenced-based laryngectomy and tracheostomy care
Demonstrated exceptional communication skills enabling effective teamwork, conflict resolution and achieving results
Demonstrated experience in the provision of speech pathology clinical supervision.
Demonstrated proficiency in working autonomously with limited supervision and demonstrated ability to prioritise work, manage a demanding workload, apply high level reasoning skills and exercise independent professional judgement
Demonstrated ability in delivering clinical education and providing clinical leadership in adult dysphagia/communication disorders, particularly in the area of Head and Neck Cancer.
Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of quality improvement activities that have led to improvements in clinical practice and patient outcomes.
