About us:

 
We are looking for an Electrical Standards Engineer to join our Renewables and Distributed Energy / Generation team here at Energy Queensland. Working across the Power, Solar, Grid and EV sector, the Senior Standards Engineer is responsible for developing standards, specifications, policies and procedures. These procedures will provide clear direction to stakeholders involved with the selection, design, installation, commissioning and operation of assets connected to the Queensland grid as well as Energy Queensland’s generation assets. 

 
Energy Queensland is the group of electricity distribution, retail, and energy services businesses 100% owned by the state of Queensland. We deliver electricity across Queensland through our ‘poles and wires’ businesses Energex and Ergon Energy Network. Our retailer, Ergon Energy Retail sells this electricity to customers throughout regional Queensland. And these essential service activities are supported by a range of innovative products and services delivered through our Yurika brand.

 
About your new role: 
 

You will be reporting directly to the Manager Generation & Customer Standards and responsible for the following:

  • Develop and evaluate plans/criteria to provide technical direction for a variety of projects and activities that are carried out by others; assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment where confirmation by testing is advisable. 
  • Undertaking and/or lead complex engineering analysis by developing/using established methods/analysis to provide expert engineering and technical advice; including leading project teams, employees and contractors, continuous improvement and innovation by encouraging open communication and cross workgroup collaboration to achieve required outcomes and completion of projects.
  • Providing professional engineering advice and recommendations within existing engineering policies, standards and practices, whilst performing the function of subject matter expert, including the recommendations for the development and use of engineering tools. 
  • Ensuring the delivery of engineering activities through the planning, scheduling and allocation of resources, whilst prioritising and managing team objectives.  
  • Developing the capability of team members and other employees through the provision of supervision, coaching and mentoring, and identifying development requirements and opportunities whilst also participating in engagement activities with external stakeholders including external presentations, workshops and preparation of industry communication material.
  • Responsible for the development and formulation of policies, standards, specifications, guidelines, procedures and processes with emphasis on strategic improvement through alignment with the Energy Queensland strategic plan. 
  • Review and approve recommendations into viable options for engineering projects, complex engineering reports and technical documentation, within established policies, standards, and practices.
 

Working arrangements: 
 

You will be located at any of our Queensland offices including Newstead (Brisbane), Mackay, Rockhampton, Townsville, Cairns, Toowoomba, Maryborough and others. All employees will be under our EBA which includes WFH flexibility (up to 2 days a week), options for 9 or 10 day fortnight and superannuation payments of 12.75%.

The remuneration for this hire starts at $186,170 plus 12.75% super for a 10-day fortnight. 

 
Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of Embedded Generation Standards and processes, Mobile Generation Standards, Isolated Systems Standards, Customer Connection Standards, the Queensland Electricity Connections Manual, the Queensland Electricity Metering Manual and the Underground Distribution Construction and processes.
  • Bachelor degree qualifications in Electrical, acceptable for membership of Institution of Engineers Australia in the Professional Engineering category.  
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ).
  • A ‘C’ class drivers licence.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of engineering calculations and analysis techniques
  • High level of written and oral communication ability, along with well-developed inter-personal and negotiating skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in information technology applications relevant to the work being undertaken.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in customer centricity through maintaining customer loyalty and trust.
