About the opportunity
Located along the Westlink M7, Blacktown International Sports Park (BISP) is the premier elite training and playing facility in Western Sydney. First opened in 2000 for the Sydney Olympic Games, the facility has continued to grow and now incorporates a variety of sporting facilities across 54 hectares, including:
- Blacktown Football Park
- 12 soccer fields with the inclusion of 6 additional fields completed in May 2020
- Western Sydney Wanderers administration and training facility
- Blacktown District Soccer Football Association administration and training facility.

- International Association of World Athletics (WA) Mondo track

- Multi-Use field for League, Union and Soccer.
- Cricket/AFL Precinct

This is an exciting permanent, full-time role responsible for the implementation of annual turf management and seasonal renovation plans.
With excellent attention to detail, an ideal candidate will take proactive steps to continue to provide surfaces of the highest quality for all stakeholders. Leading an experienced and passionate grounds team, you will be predominately responsible for delivering the year round maintenance and preparation of the Cricket and AFL facility at Blacktown International Sportspark and have the ability to work pro-actively under pressure and meet deadlines.
You will promote continuous improvement within the team, have sound communication skills, extensive understanding in use/repair of irrigation systems and sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety.
Qualifications and experience
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in Horticulture (Turf), Sports Turf Management or a related area and/or extensive experience in these areas of operations
- Demonstrated experience in leading a small team
- Demonstrable extensive experience and knowledge of high standard sporting field preparation and other areas including common reserves and landscaping
- Class C driver's licence.
Desirable:
- Experience in the maintenance and preparation of sand profile sports fields, turf wickets, softball and baseball diamonds
- Chainsaw operation certificate of competence
- Class MR driver’s licence
- Current Chemical Application Accreditation AQF3 or equivalent
- Senior First Aid Certificate.
Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $1,506.24 per week
- 38-hour working week
- Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
- Penalty rates apply for weekend shifts
