Job description

About the roleIn this role, you will provide high quality strategic urban design advice. You will also be responsible for project management and the research, development and preparation of structure plans, guidelines and policies for the City of Greater Geelong.
Work type: Permanent Full timeClassification: Band 7 ($100,064 - $110,990 pa plus super)
Key responsibilities include:
Provide strategic urban design expertise to city-wide spatial visions, masterplans, structure plans and other guiding documents, ensuring design thinking is embedded in all projects at all scales.
Provide design solutions and strategies for a range of place-based projects encompassing residential, mixed use, commercial and industrial master planning commissions.
Research, develop and prepare strategies, guidelines, policies and urban design initiatives to support the delivery of a high-quality public environment.
Provide visually compelling communication to enable diverse audiences to imagine and realise the future opportunities for a place, neighbourhood, precinct or a city.
Contribute to the management of projects to optimise time, cost and quality in their delivery.
About youTo be successful in this role, you will have a relevant tertiary qualification in a built environment/design profession, and extensive practical experience in urban design, preferably within a Local Government environment.
Essential Experience:
Ability to input into the development of planning and urban design policy, including the analysis and testing of built form proposals (e.g., through modelling) that can support planning scheme amendments.
A solid understanding of urban design principles, including the ability to constructively critique development application proposals and to provide input into urban renewal strategies and projects (e.g., streetscapes).
Cognisant of planning practice (strategic and statutory) to ensure design visions and plans translate into policy and deliver great outcomes for the community.
Ability to research and synthesise community needs, urban trends and history of place in their consideration of future opportunity.
Demonstrated experience and ability in implementing the design process, including multi-scalar thinking from precinct to human scale.
