Seniors Legal and Support Service (SLASS) is a multidisciplinary service providing free legal and support assistance for people aged 60 or older, and 50 or over for ATSI clients, across the Fraser Coast local government area experiencing, or at risk of, abuse or exploitation.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Seniors Support Navigator will:
- Access strong service networks to deliver service tailored support which will include short term case management (up to 3 months), form completion, transport, My Aged Care support and other life skills.
- Maximise the resources that exist within the Hervey Bay community and create strategies to maximise clients' sense of social support and cohesion.
- Support the delivery of SLASS, in line with the goals and objectives outlined in the contract with the Department.
- Deliver social support to older people, as part of a multidisciplinary team within a legal framework, across the Fraser Coast experiencing, or at risk of, elder abuse.

Essential:
- A strong commitment to human rights and social justice principles.
- Strong case management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, within a legal framework, to deliver holistic service.
- High level communication skills including public speaking, advocacy and conflict resolution skills.
- Current C class driver’s licence or the ability to obtain within an agreed timeframe.
- Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to readily obtain.
Desirable:
- Knowledge and experience in working with, and advocating on behalf of, older people including capacity, guardianship and administration matters.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated experience working with, and advocating on behalf of, older people and a strong client service focus on human rights and social justice.
- Demonstrated ability to case-manage including provision of direct, structured and practical support to individual clients.
- Willingness to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, within a legal framework, in close partnership with solicitors in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of a holistic service.
- Demonstrated high level communication skills including public speaking, advocacy and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated experience in the planning and delivery of community education.
- Current C class driver's licence, or ability to obtain within an agreed time frame, and Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to readily obtain.

The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre was founded 1989 as a community-based initiative to provide help, friendship and support to the most disenfranchised people in the community. The emphasis of all of our activities is on people and the relief of issues and concerns that impede them from living a successful and happy life.
We develop and deliver programs and services in response to community need. Presently, the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre manages 30 funded programs that encompass aspects of aged care, family services, diversity and social isolation.
