About the role
The Justice and Peace Office is an agency of the Archdiocese of Sydney that provides advice, research and educational activities on matters affecting social issues within the context of the Catholic Church’s social teachings. The office seeks to heighten the profile of Catholic Social Teaching within the Archdiocese and to both widen the knowledge of that teaching within the Church and the wider community.
The duties of the Social Justice Facilitator include, but are not limited to the following:
- Undertake educational, collaborative and advisory projects in pursuit of its mission of promoting the social teaching of the Catholic Church
- Working as an advocate, an organiser and project manager of campaigns centered on Social Justice issues within NSW
- Work collaboratively and as a sole advocate across multiple platforms from social media to parish support to political advocacy
- Conduct workshops and talks on Catholic social teaching
- Support Catholic communities to live out their social mission
- Provide background research for articles, speeches and submissions, and to maintain communications media
- Administrative tasks related to the above responsibilities and other duties as reasonably required by the Justice and Peace promoter
About You
The ideal candidate should satisfy the following selection criteria:
- Minimum three (3) years relevant experience in a similar role
- Tertiary qualifications in an area relevant to the role
- Sound writing and research skills
- Strong commitment to the Catholic faith
- Good communication and people skills
- The ability to work under limited supervision
- An ability to operate with absolute discretion and to maintain complete confidentiality and;
- The ability to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks
- Demonstrated commitment to the ethos and values of the Catholic Church and its Tradition
